I love the mountains…

I fell in love during my time in Grenoble

Grenoble is wonderfully located in the heart of the French Alps. I was lucky to live there for my work. I lived in an apartment in Uriage-les-Bains with views to Chamrousse and all the way down the valley to Vizille. What a dream location, where the mountains simply drag you in. Ever since I have returned to the French mountains every year - both the Alps and the Pyrenees. I normally start the season in early June with a week in the southern most part of the Alps in the Mercantour. Snow is still around, the huts are empty during the week and you get to talk to the wardens and to see when helicopters deliver the suppliers for a big part of the season.

Mountain Hiking and easy Climbing

In the beginning I just loved to hike in the mountains. In the past few years I have started to add easy climbing to my skills and pleasures. The best peaks I enjoyed this year were Aiguille de Chambeyron in the Alps and Grand Pic du Midi d’Ossau in the Pyrenees. To train for the easy climbing I go bouldering 3 times a week in climbing centres, which is fun, trains a big part of your body and gradually improves your skills…

But Brenda and my family are my first love…...

Although mountains are important to me, they do come second to my family. I met Brenda more than 20 years ago at a jazz club in London while I was in town to celebrate a friend and colleague while Brenda was out with her friends. The chance of us meeting must have been one in a million. It was love at first sight and it still is….

So be careful out there in the mountains. Don’t take unnescessary risks. Make sure you get home to your family safely…..
